Welcome to the

28th SC Peanut Party

Aug. 7 & 8 2009

SC Peanut Princess Pageant July 25, 2009

Hi-Cotton Gospel Concert August 1, 2009

Governor Mark Sanford, on May 1, 2006, officially signed into law, H.4585 making the boiled peanut South Carolina's official state snack food.

However, the South Carolina Peanut Party has been going nuts over boiled peanuts for 27 years! The Peanut Party began on August 28, 1982. The festival was a one day event back then. This year we begin on Saturday, July 26th with the SC Peanut Princess Pageant, and then on Saturday, Aug. 1st we will present the Hi-Cotton Gospel singers in concert at the Pelion High School auditorium. Contact person for both events: senlow@scpeanutparty.com. On Friday, Aug. 7th the peanuts are blessed and the Peanut Party officially begins with the blessing of the pots and a rousing performance from the Pelion High School Band and continues through Saturday, Aug. 9th! The Invitational Parade starts Saturday at 10am at the corner of Maple St. and Hwy #302, for information contact: ssprenne@scpeanutparty.com. The SC Peanut Party supports local civic groups, the Annual Pelion Christmas Tree For Children, and Pelion High School Scholarships.

Up to 130 bushels of peanuts are boiled in huge pots near the community center beginning the afternoon prior to the party and throughout the night by the Pelion Ruritan club members and their families.

This year Palmetto Amusements brings us new carnival rides including Round-Up, Lupo Plane, Ape Slide, Swings, HotAir Balloon Ride, Atlantis Undersea, Kids Town Fun House, Strawberry Ride, Rock Wall, and the Western Train Rio Grand. Make sure to come listen to Friday’s entertainment with local entertainers – Rock Salvage! On Saturday evening we are pleased to bring back Mattie Phifer’s Band for their 2nd appearance in Pelion. The Mattie Phifer Band promises the best of the blues and "Nothin but the Blues"! Featuring Blues ‘Belter’ Mattie Phifer, Vocalist & Pianist Catherine Brickley, Bassist Greg Willard, and Drummer Dave McNeer.  Also on Saturday we are featuring a Battle of the Bands. T-Shirts will be available at the Peanut Shed. We have something for everyone - an Arts & Craft Show (asmoak@scpeanutparty.com), Food Concessions (senlow@scpeanutparty.com), Souvenirs, Parade, Exhibitors, Book Sale, Softball Tournament, our very own Peanut Butter Sandwich Eating Contest, and, of course, Boiled Peanuts!
